Notes on eating the Word. |
John 12:47-48
(Source: youversion.com)
This morning, in weakness and unbelief, I ask myself how I could still be so insecure and anxious, lacking the more steady confidence in Christ I want more than anything. God responded to me from Hebrews:
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him
Hebrews 5:7-9
Even my Savior received refining, as mysterious as that is. Even lacking sin, there was a need or a plan to have him suffer to learn obedience. He was perfected in the furnace of affliction, and leads the way for me to join him there.
Perfect me Jesus! Perfect me in the furnace. Bring me closer. Hold me tighter. Burn away everything that hinders. Burn every bridge I keep to sin. Burn every bridge to any good thing that keeps me from you. You are brighter in the fire.
God doesn’t want our best, he wants what he asked for… (our heart, soul, mind, strength - and to love our neighbor as ourself)
