Notes on eating the Word. |
Philippians 3:7-10
Psalm 4:7
When you wake up small and all you can think about makes you grumpy - Cheer up! When you’ve got work to do on vacation, and you think reading your bible might make Jesus happier about you - Cheer up! Have you got it in your head that you’ve blown it, you’ve really screwed up this time, and you can’t repent immediately?
Cheer up! You’re wrong about yourself. The great work you have to do is to let go of the shit you believe about yourself, to say out loud with your whole being “That’s a LIE from the pit of hell, and I won’t believe it! In the name of Jesus I won’t believe it. By His Grace and Mercy I won’t believe it.”
Don’t just let go though, now start believing the TRUTH, about what Jesus says about you.
Did you wake up small and grumpy? He loves you in your weakness and came for the sick, spreading out on the cross unto death because he wanted you free.
Did you have to work instead of doing your devotions? Do you feel like a half-assed believer sometimes? Do you wake up guilty? Good! The Lord called the really good “believers” white washed tombs! There are no really good believers. We’re all wonderful idiots in the faith! We all pale in comparison to his glory, and we can delight in that. Knowing that by the power of the Spirit he will sanctify us into more believing weakness, restful dependence on him - our provider.
Did you know he dances over you with pleasure? Did you know he sings over you and has a song for you? A song he sings to his kingdom about you specifically. Every moment of suffering you’ve had, every joy in him, is a unique lyric in his song, his epic poem about you, his beloved.
Wake up O sleeper. Wake up and run to the Bridegroom, he’s calling us. Ragged and broken, we are his beautiful bride.
The joy set before Jesus, that drove him to endure the cross, was and is us, his bride, his people.
You’re my exceedingly great reward.
