Eat The Word |
Notes on eating the Word. |
A good friend would pull out the rug from under you, to love you into reality. A great friend would take the fall for you. But no normal man would spill out his life to woo you and your enemies into the wildfires of an unquenchable love. This is the deadly friendship of the beautiful God. This is Jesus.
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
John 15:13-16
This morning, I had a vision of resting on Jesus. Sitting with him without hindrance, no distraction. A fountain of his delight poured out of his eyes. He’s showing me again that each moment of suffering in my life — lost or broken friendships, division in our community, and the loss of dignities — are all gifts. Each pain is a particular gift, a fellowship moment in his suffering (Phil. 3:8-10).
I also cause pain, sometimes, in weakness, even knowingly, and those who are subject to it are offered the same fellowship with Jesus. One day we will all drink the wedding wine together, and there will be unhindered friendship with God and one another. We will dance like 4 year olds on that day.
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
